PRODUCT DETAILS

Material Options for Every Environment
Maverick Label carries a variety of material options to meet your most demanding needs.

Premium Vinyl: Our premium vinyl will produce optimum printing results and has a performance adhesive able to conform to lightly curved or irregular surfaces. Best for most low surface energy applications but must be handled carefully when applying to avoid stretch and bubbles. (2 mil thickness, available in white or clear.)

Polyester: More resilient than vinyl, polyester is better suited to applications where the safety label will experience regular physical contact and/or high temperatures. (2 mil thickness, available in white or clear.)

Lexan: For warning label applications requiring a premium, nameplate look, superior durability, or adhesion to highly textured surfaces, our 10 mil Lexan is the choice for you. This polycarbonate material is subsurface printed and the velvet surface masks minor surface scratches keeping your label looking new for years.

Reflective Vinyl: For highly visible, typically outdoor, warning label applications. Reflects light, providing high visibility, both day and night. Our 7.5 mil vinyl has a 7 year outdoor vertical surface rating making it one of our longest lasting, durable vinyls.
Laminates and Adhesives Provide Extra Durability
When your labels need to stand up to tough conditions, we’ve got options to help.

Laminates to protect the look of your label over time
• For indoor applications, use a 1 mil or 2 mil Gloss Polyester Over-Laminate
• For ultimate durability, use LexSaver® 5 mil Velvet Lexan Over-Laminate
• For extreme exposure to impact/abrasion/chemical cleaners, use 8 mil Velvet Polypropylene
• For extended UV protection, use 2 mil UV Guard Over-Laminate for 3-5 year fade resistance

Adhesives to keep your labels securely in place
• Our polyester and vinyl materials both come with a permanent pressure sensitive adhesive.
• For extra permanent adhesion, our 4 mil Elephant Grip Vinyl or 2 mil Elephant Grip Polyester are hard to beat. Both come with an extremely aggressive clear, permanent adhesive on heavy paper liner. The adhesive is well suited for hard-to-stick-to surfaces such as Thermoplastic Olefin (TPO) and powdered paint.
• When choosing a Lexan material for your label, you have adhesive options based on the surface properties where the label will be applied.
• 2 mil 3M 467MP is our most common adhesive. Best for generally smooth surfaces.
• 5 mil 3M 468MP is best for very rough surfaces, not for smooth surface applications.
• 2 mil LSE is suggested for adhering your warning label to Low Surface Energy plastics.
Design Standards
The design of safety labels is mainly governed by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

Standard warning labels may be horizontal or vertical, and may incorporate two or three panels containing a Signal Word with a distinctive background color or border, or margin, a Symbol (optional), and a Message.

Signal Word: Calls attention to the safety label and designates a degree or level of hazard seriousness.
DANGER: Indicates an imminently hazardous situation which, if not avoided, will result in death or serious injury. This signal word is to be limited to the most extreme situations. (White lettering on Fireball Red (485) background.)
WARNING: Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury. (Black lettering on Safety Orange (152) background.)
CAUTION: Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, may result in minor or moderate injury. It may also be used to alert against unsafe practices. (Black lettering on Process Yellow (106) background.)

Message: Area containing text which identifies the hazard, indicates how to avoid the hazard, and advises of the probable consequence of not avoiding the hazard. The word message should be concise and readily understood. Multiple messages should have enough space between them so that they do not visually blend together. Black lettering on white background OR white lettering on black background.

Symbol: Optional pictorial representation intended to convey a message without the use of words. It may represent a hazard, a hazardous situation, a precaution to avoid a hazard, a result of not avoiding a hazard, or any combination of these messages. Should normally be black on white background. Other colors may be used for emphasis or special situations, such as safety red for fire.
Font Styles and Sizes
Font Styles: Signal words must be in all uppercase sans serif font. Message panel should be a combination of capitals and lowercase letters (clc), also using a sans serif font. A serif font may be used for longer text, and upper-case-only lettering may be used for short messages or emphasis of individual words. Sans serif fonts we recommend are Arial, Helvetica, Futura, and Univers. We also recommend that BOLD versions of these fonts be used.

Font Size: Although font size must be determined by legibility requirements of the particular application, the following guidelines establish minimum character heights for "Favorable" and "Unfavorable" conditions. The height of an uppercase "H" should be used to determine character height, and for practical purposes you can use a conversion of .01 inches for every point of type size. (e.g. use 12 point type for to achieve 0.12" character height.)

Please refer to the ANSI or ISO website for the most current guidelines.
