Many scientific and electronic products require certification of their components by the European Union or the US, to show that the chemical hazards are being kept to a minimum. This compliance certification includes even the labels on these products.

Several of our label product lines have offered compliance certificates for years, but we’ve recently made improvements in the way that you can request them. It’s much easier now and can be done during the order process.

Compliance Certification Programs

We have label products that meet the requirements for four different compliance certification programs.

Certificate of Conformance

Also known as CoC, Certificate of Compliance, Certificate of Conformity, or Type Approval, this is the most often requested certificate. It states that the product was certified by a competent authority and meets the required specifications for the product. The certification includes details that provide traceability of the product to its point of manufacture or origin. More info: Type Approval

RoHS

RoHS is short for the EU directive on Restriction of Hazardous Substances. It applies to electrical or electronic products and components. Compliance certifies that the product in question does not contain more than the specified amount of lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, or certain other chemicals (PBB, PBDE, DEHP, BBP, DBP, DIBP). More info: RoHS Guide

REACH

REACH stands for Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals. It is an E.U. regulation addressing the production and use of chemical substances and their health/environmental impacts. Over 143,000 substances are registered through REACH. More info: Understanding REACH

3TG

The US Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act requires public companies to disclose their use of conflict minerals that originated in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) or an adjoining African country. 3TG refers to tungsten, tantalum, tin and gold, frequently mined in or around the conflict region of the DRC. Which Label Materials Are Certified?

All materials in our Control Panel/Graphic Overlay program are certified for all four programs above. We offer compliance certification for a large number of materials in our Asset Tag, Anti-Forgery, Destructible Security, and Industrial Equipment (short run) lines, as well.

Requesting Certificates

We’ve made it very easy to tell if your labels will be compliant, and to request the needed certificates during the order process. When you have finished entering your job specs in any of the above product lines, you’ll get a price. Click the green “Continue” button below the pricing to go to the details page.

Once on the details page, you’ll see options to request a proof, upload artwork, and the like. Right below those two options, and above the section where you can add additional information, there may be a section named “Compliance Documents.” (Section is circled on image below.) You may then select the checkboxes next to the certificate you need. We’ll ship that certificate to you with your label order.

If the materials you select are not eligible for a particular certificate, it will not appear on the list. You may go back and choose a different material, or open a chat with one of our Customer Care reps in order to clarify which specific materials in that program include compliance certification.
