2017 Winners

Our 2017 winners show great drive and determination, going outside the box to move forward. We have confidence they will do well in the future and are proud to have helped them on their way. Here’s short excerpts from their winning essays:

Mikayla Moore, UT-Austin

“Every facet of our lives is impacted by software developers, and I find it fascinating to be a part of these technological advancements. Doing so would require creativity, determination and tenacity – all skills which I pride myself on. My experience selling clothes through my online business has allowed me to develop my creative skills, as I am constantly looking for ways to market my products. I have developed determination, as sales do not always come in as quick as I desire, but I still continue to maintain my online store front. I constantly search for new items to sell and new ways to increase profits. I will carry this same passion and vigor into my work as a software developer.”

Tung Thanh Nguyen, UC-Irvine

“My goal in the future is to become an epidemiologist to help and serve people in my community. As an epidemiologist, I would have an opportunity to raise awareness of public health matters and contribute to solving health problems that are thriving in my hometown and countries around the globe. With my hard work and the help of Reality Changers, I got accepted to several public universities in California, and I’m heading to my first year of college next year. At a four-year university, I will be able to explore my interests and gain deeper knowledge about public health through courses in epidemiology, environmental health, health policy and management, social and behavioral aspects of public health, and biostatistics.”
