Magnetic business cards are used for business promotions to communicate important and frequently used information. Custom magnet printing can be used for indoor or outdoor use. Indoor magnets are designed to stick to metal surfaces such as file cabinets or refrigerators. Outdoor magnets are designed to stick to vehicles, equipment or other metal surfaces.

Magnetic business card design is not difficult to master. be sure to use fonts that are large enough and styled so that they can be easily read. Choose the right material for the job. Select printing methods based on indoor or outdoor use. Remember, too, that full color delivers the most impact in almost any design and that all business card magnets are 2" x 3 ½" - printed in landscape or portrait direction.

Consider these three choices when starting your business card magnet order: indoor or outdoor use, strength of the magnetic material, colors used in your design.

Think Big. Big Letters. Big Images.

Indoor and Outdoor Business Card Magnet Printing

Good business card design requires thinking big. The small 2" x 3 1/2" area will work best for you when you avoid the small details in the big elements. Big type works better than small. Fewer words work better than more words. Thinking of your business card magnets like a small billboard might help your design thinking.

When using photos or images in your design, again, try to think big. Select images or photos that take up at least 1/3rd of the magnet design. When using background images, try to use the images for color and attention more than for fine details.

Indoor and Outdoor Business Card Magnet Thickness Options

Indoor magnetic materials come in two "strengths". Strength is based on thickness and we offer .019" and .034" thick materials. The .019" material is not recommended for holding papers underneath it. Choose .019" material if your magnet will be applied directly to the metal - with no paper in-between. If your indoor magnet requires paper to be held between the magnet and the metal, we recommend only our .034" material.

Please note that .019" thick material can be printed full color or spot color. Our .034" thick material can only be printed in up to 3 ink colors - no color photos.

We recommend only .034" thick magnetic material for outdoor magnet use.

Indoor and Outdoor Business Card Magnet Printing Colors

We can digitally print photo-quality magnets or we can silk-screen print magnets with up to 3 ink colors. Which one is right for your use?

Here's the rule of thumb for magnet ink color choices: if you are using photos, you must print in full color. Full color magnets are for indoor use only and can only be printed on .019" thick magnetic material. If you do not need photos on your magnet, you can print either digital or silk-screen. Silk-screen is the only choice for printing on .034" thick business card magnet material.

Another advantage of silk-screen printing is that you can specify specific PMS colors. This can be helpful when you need to match your exact logo color. Digital printing is not the best solution for matching a PMS color. Custom colors are printed for an additional fee.
